May 15, 2017: Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries joined conservators, marine scientists and enthusiasts at the launch of Nature Seekers’ partnered research project with Fisheries and Oceans Canada on Wednesday 10th May, 2017 at the Matura Beach.

The joint venture introduced a new type of monitoring of the leatherback turtle which will allow Nature Seekers to determine the time and frequency of the leatherbacks’ emergence on our shores.  It will also monitor and track turtles that are tagged to map their migratory patterns.  Sixty percent of the total number of turtles that nest on Matura forage in Canadian waters.  Canadian Scientist, Dr. Mike James led the process.

This Launch followed the Minister’s participation at the Group’s Appreciation Day held at the Convention Centre, Matura on Sunday 7th May, 2017 where he notably said ‘what I have seen in Matura is a community taking responsibility for its environment, to defend it’.

Established in 1990, Nature Seekers celebrates its 27th Anniversary this year.
