An elated Minister Smith was pleased to see the number of young boxers involved in the sport. He said this is the age group that we are targeting and there is the need to continuously develop athletes from the primary school level. He mentioned that he wants Mr. Leslie ‘Tiger’ Stewart, former professional boxer and world champion, to work with the young boxers and hopefully see some of these young people as champions in the near future. It is his hope to have boxing full time in the secondary schools and host Intercol school competitions with continued expansion of the sport going forward. He thanked the managers and coaches and hopes that the sport garners corporate sponsorship and support.
