Naparima Boys’ College, San Fernando is the Caribbean Drama Festival Champions and are being praised for this achievement.The victorious drama team which represented Trinidad and Tobago returned from Antigua & Barbuda this week where the competition was held after winning in 10 of the 14 categories. This is the first year the school has offered ‘Drama’ as a subject at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level.
In extending congratulations, the Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education says “this achievement is testimony of the abundance of talents our students possess outside of the academics (traditional subjects) and the efforts of the Ministry to encourage more students to pursue studies in the Arts.”
Visual and Performing Arts are at the core of all levels of the education system and the Ministry has seen an increase in the number of students pursuing these subjects at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level.
Additionally, the Minister Garcia notes “the Ministry supports the policy of stakeholder engagement and continues to partner with agencies and groups which organise festivals and competitions to provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents.”
Outside of the traditional subjects like Mathematics, Science and Language Arts, the Ministry of Education offers in the Performing Arts at the CAPE level, subjects such as Dance, Music, Drama and Visual Arts, Animation, Digital Arts, Art and Design, Cinematic Art and Business for the Creative Arts.
