The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management was notified by both the Environmental Management Authority and the Princes Town Regional Corporation (Disaster Management Unit) of an oil spill in the Moruga area on Tuesday 5th December, 2017.
The oil spill occurred in close proximity to 105 Bachan Trace and Moruga Main Road, St. Mary’s Village Moruga, Trinidad.
The reported cause of the oil spill (a ruptured line) has been repaired and clamped. Clean-up operations have commenced and is ongoing. There are two (2) containment booms, vacuum trucks and other assets still on site ensuring residents are minimally affected.
At this time, the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Petrotrin), the Environmental Management Authority and the Princes Town Regional Corporation continue to work aggressively to reduce its impact to residents and the environment.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management continues to closely monitor the situation and liaise with all agencies.
Residents are asked to cooperate with all response agencies and if adversely affected to visit the nearest health facility and/or contact the Princes Town Regional Corporation at 800- PTRC (7872).
