April 26 2016: THIRTY-TWO officers from the Police Service, in both the First and Second Divisions, were yesterday made honourary members of the Police and Social Welfare Association in an unprecedented move initiated by President of the Association, Inspector Anand Ramesar.

Among the persons given honourary membership were Emerald Bruce, former President of the Police Social and Welfare Association, retired Asst Commissioner of Police Teldon Christopher, Supt Julie Carrington, ACP Kyron Arthur, Snr Supt Errol Dillon, Snr Supt Matthew Shallow, Inspector Mungal Hazarie, Snr Sup David Lewis, Corporal Gloria Woods, Sgt Brian Pierre and others.

According to Ramesar the decision to make the 32 retirees honourary members was taken by the Executive in an attempt to invoke one of the Association’s by-laws which has been in existence since 1992 but which has never been used. “It is hoped that this move will maintain a level of camaraderie between existing police officers and retirees.

Additionally it is also hoped that the Retirees Association would become more connected and collaborative with the TTPS Social and Welfare Association. It is hoped that by next year there will be another batch of retirees who will be bestowed with the honourary membership, and this practice is expected to take place at every Annual General Meeting.”
