The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has offered the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) a permanent home at the Tamana InTech Park, Wallerfield.
On Tuesday 18 September, 2018, officials of TTASA met with the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry and officials of both Ministries and Evolving TecKnologies and Enterprise Development Company Limited (e TecK) at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, in St Clair to examine the tenancy of TTASA at Wallerfield.
It was agreed that the current area that has been occupied by TTASA includes an encroachment on more land than was originally assigned in its rental/lease agreement. This encroachment impacts the quantum of space required for the Alutech project for which construction will commence on October 1st, 2018. All parties noted that there are significant benefits to be derived from the coexistence of the Alutech facility and racing activities within the same area.
In this regard and to facilitate the thrust towards a permanent home for racing, a survey which is currently underway for the Alutech project will be expanded to guide the allocation of a 30 metre buffer zone to the facility, with the possibility of an extension of lands to accommodate both drag and circuit racing.
Minister Cudjoe noted that several factors, including the number of persons employed in motor racing have been taken into consideration in making the offer of a long-term lease arrangement. Additionally the necessary CEC approvals and insurance arrangements would have to be pursued by TTASA. The Association is expected to provide a strategic plan for the motor racing industry to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs within the next two (2) weeks.
In the interim, TTASA has been given a three-month extension for motor racing activities until December 31st, 2018 subject to its satisfaction of terms and conditions set out by e TecK.
With a permanent place for racing now being offered, dialogue on the location at Waterloo is now off the table and has been agreed by all parties.
