This year, Trinidad and Tobago will have a forty-four (44) person strong delegation at the Special Olympics World Games scheduled for March 08 to March 22, 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

This country’s upcoming participation was made possible in great part due to the contribution of Government, through the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs which provided Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago (SOTT) with 100% of the financial assistance requested.

In presenting the cheque, valued at $620,325.00 to SOTT, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Shamfa Cudjoe, indicated that she is looking forward to seeing our athletes who have been training over the last two years, compete against the other one hundred and seventy (170) nations. She urged the SOTT to ensure that this opportunity is a fulfilling one as it will facilitate opportunities for further development of our athletes and promote a culture of inclusion, understanding and respect in sport.

Minister Cudjoe also commended SOTT for its persistence and numerous efforts to mobilize a team of athletes to participate in the Games. She further applauded the organisation for their various fundraising initiatives over the last two (2) years.

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs continues to promote total participation in sport and hopes that through events like the Special Olympics World Games, which attract a high viewership worldwide, all our country’s athletes will continue to be inspired, like so many others, to tell their stories and highlight their achievements.
