Port of Spain: Officials of the Ministry of National Security met today with members of the Lifeguard Services to discuss matters affecting lifeguards assigned to the Maracas Beach facility.

The meeting included members of the Ministry’s Executive, representatives of the Lifeguard Services based at Maracas Beach and officials of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT).

Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. addressed the meeting. He expressed his appreciation for the hard work and dedicated service provided by the nation’s lifeguards and committed the Ministry to resolve the concerns raised.

Remedial work has been ongoing over the past few weeks at the Maracas Beach facility since concerns were initially reported. At today’s meeting, all parties agreed to a work plan aimed at resolving the remaining issues in the coming days.

The Ministry’s Executive also informed Lifeguard representatives that plans are in place to execute major upgrades to the Maracas Beach facility, starting in July 2019 and continuing over a 6-8 week timeframe.

All parties agreed to collaborate closely to ensure that issues are resolved in the shortest possible time as public safety continues to be a top priority.
