The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) wishes to advise customers in parts of South-East Trinidad supplied by the Navet Water Treatment Plant that the current pipe borne water supply being experienced, may persist over the coming weeks. The reduced regularity of supply is due to low levels at the Navet Reservoir resulting in reduced production at the facility, which continues to negatively impact customers at high points and the extremities of the pipeline distribution system in particular.
It is important to note that the Navet Reservoir is presently at 18% capacity, while the long term average for this time of year is 45%. As a consequence of this prevailing situation, the Navet facility is currently operating at 50% of its production capacity that is 10 million gallons per day (mgd), instead of the normal 20 mgd. In order to mitigate the impact of the reduced water availability from this plant, the Authority has been redirecting supplies from the Caroni Water Treatment Plant and the Pt. Lisas Desalination Plant. The Authority has also increased its water trucking service to impacted areas and will be making further additions to its water trucking fleet over the coming weeks.
The Authority wishes to assure that it remains committed to working closely with local government and other representatives from impacted communities, to ensure the availability of a water supply to all customers.
