Port of Spain: Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security the Honourable Glenda Jennings-Smith M.P. gave the assurance that the Ministry of National Security is continuing to place particular importance on the nation’s youth, by providing them with viable avenues to develop their natural talents and to become future leaders that will stay committed to this country.
The Parliamentary Secretary was speaking at the official Opening Ceremony for the Annual Training Camp of the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force, held on July 18, 2019 at the Valencia Secondary School.
Ms. Jennings-Smith reminded members of the Cadet Force of their important role in society as exemplars to other young people and their community. She encouraged them to continue to carry out their duties marked by discipline, respect for others, genuine service and social consciousness.
The TTCF Annual Training Camp is being held over a ten (10) day period, giving Cadets the opportunity to take part in a series of challenging quasi-military-type programmes, entailing a mixture of exciting outdoor exercises, sporting, recreational and developmental pursuits.
As part of this year’s camp activities, the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force (TTCF) and the Grenada Cadet Corps (GCC) are conducting an exchange programme to further regional integration between the two Cadet Units. The Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force’s contingent currently in Grenada comprises of three (3) adult officers and ten (10) student cadets who are training with two (2) adult officers and eighteen (18) student cadets from the Grenada Cadet Corps.
The Ministry of National Security continues to provide the necessary resources to the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force in keeping with this Government’s agenda to reduce delinquency and crime among our nation’s youth population and provide a better quality of life for all our citizens.
The Ministry of National Security has expanded the Cadet Force in recent years, with many more of our nation’s young people being encouraged and inspired to adopt nation building values. Throughout the country, there are more than seventy-five (75) Cadet Units operating in Secondary Schools, impacting the lives of over three thousand (3,000) young men and women.
