Port of Spain: The Ministry of National Security remains focused on promoting the well-being of the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service. Immediate and constant improvement of the infrastructure, equipment and the human resource base of the Fire Service, is being given urgent attention and priority.
Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. restated this commitment as he delivered the feature address at the Trinidad and TobagoFire Service Passing Out Parade for Batch # 3 of 2019 on Thursday December 19, 2019 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
Minister Young congratulated the new firefighters for their decision to join the noble profession, adding that their induction will further strengthen the human resource capacity of the Fire Service. He encouraged the recruits to “proceed with pride in your achievements. Put your training into practice for the enhancement of the Fire Service and your country”. He recognised the contribution all members of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service make to the nation, as they go beyond the call of duty dedicating their lives to the continuous safety of all.
The Minister commended the leadership and instructors of the Fire Service Training School in Savonetta, Point Lisas stating that they do outstanding service in transforming trainees into competent and effective firefighters.
Minister Young indicated that the Ministry of National Security has committed to improving the physical and infrastructural aspects of fire stations across the country. Initiatives in this regard include the construction of new fire stations, some of which are already underway; refurbishment of existing fire stations in need of repair; appliance acquisition; refurbishment and upgrade of equipment; and the procurement of firefighting kits and uniforms.
Addressing the recruits, Acting Chief Fire Officer Mr. Marlon Smith urged them to give of their best and to always deliver exceptional service to the public. The Acting Chief Fire Officer underscored the evolving role of the firefighter, noting that their duties are not limited to extinguishing fires and bush fires, but are multi-faceted in nature. He stated that the recruits have been well trained and are ready to provide efficient and effective public fire protection and emergency services to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
One hundred and fourteen (114) new recruits were inducted at Thursday’s Passing Out Parade. Their training included fire administration and operation procedures; equipment use; firefighting and rescue; search and rescue; aerodrome firefighting, first aid; fire engineering science; and special operations.
