Port of Spain: The Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis has secured the approval of the Cabinet to fulfill the commitment given by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, to provide financial assistance to fund the education of the three(3) children of deceased Vision on Mission founder Wayne Chance.
Mr. Chance’s three (3) children, who are 9, 10 and 13, will each receive a monthly stipend equivalent to the monthly subvention paid by the Government for children placed in community residences. This sum, Minister Robinson-Regis indicated, will be paid until each of the children attains the age of 18. The sum will be reviewed every three (3) years.
According to Minister Robinson-Regis “many times persons working with the less fortunate make tremendous personal and professional sacrifices which also impact negatively on their families, and following their demise, these families are left to fend for themselves. The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services believes that, in keeping with the Prime Minister’s promise, there is an obligation to ensure that not only does the work of Vision on Mission continue, but that Mr. Chance’s family receives some of the very assistance their father provided to so many others.”
Minister Robinson-Regis has already held preliminary discussions with Mrs Giselle Chance, widow of Wayne Chance, and they will meet next week to finalise these discussions and the mechanism for her accessing the assistance which Mrs Chance has graciously accepted.
