August 4, 2016: One of the mandates for the diversification of Tobago’s economy is the expansion of the island’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) capability.

That’s about to happen, as the Eco-Industrial Development Company of Tobago (E-IDCOT) announced that Tobago will soon construct a data centre at the Cove Eco-Industrial and Business Park (CEIBP).

The Tier 3 data centre, which will be set up with the aid of a telecommunications service provider, will start early in 2017, and should be completed in eight months.

According to E-IDCOT CEO, Bernard Mitchell, ICT is a key area that will aid diversification.

“The diversification is to build on tourism, and ICT is just one of the sectors we’ve targeted,” Mitchell said. “So in terms of having this facility, it puts you on that projector to expand the ICT sector.”

The facility will provide ICT services based on clients’ needs.
