Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry met with Mr. Nigel Romano, Chairman, National Flour Mills and Senior Executives of the NFM Board and Management team on Tuesday 30 August 2016 at the NFM, Head Office. The purpose of the visit was to tour the facility to gain insight on the operations of National Flour Mills and to discuss the organisation future plans for growth and sustainability.
During the discussions, Minister Gopee-Scoon challenged the NFM team to ‘strive for improved operational efficiencies and explore new export opportunities in markets such as Cuba, Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries with the clear intention to increase your revenue streams and earn greater foreign exchange’. She commended the team on their achievements, productivity and well-kept facilities.
Mr. Romano and Mr. Kelvin Mahabir, Chief Executive Officer both indicated that in the short to medium term the Company intends to focus on plant efficiency, capacity flexibility and expansion, quality assurance infrastructure and systems, and the improvement of employee working conditions. Some of the projects that will be pursued by NFM over the next 2 years include the upgrade of the feed mill and raw material storage facilities, modernization of the dry mix operations, the upgrade and centralization of its Laboratory and Research and Development facilities, the expansion of its warehousing at Carlsen Field and the improvement of office/employee facilities.
Among the touring team were Ms. Frances Seignoret, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Industry; Mr. Joseph Jacob, Director, NFM; Sonja Voisin, Director, NFM and Mr. Dennis Scott, Manager Alliances, Ministry of Trade and Industry.
