September 13, 2016: Six new heritage trails around Tobago will give visitors and residents the chance to learn more about the island’s heritage, and also promote preservation. And two of them have already been opened—the Scarborough Heritage Trail and Church Tour Trail 1 were launched on Friday (September 9, 2016).
At the launch, Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracy Davidson-Celestine said Tobago must continue to find ways to offer a competitive tourism product. “Our product continues to attract the
attention of international visitors and we must continue to separate ourselves from our competitors,” the Secretary said.
“The launch of the Scarborough Heritage Trail bears testimony to this Division’s commitment to expanding the tourism product for the enjoyment and education of our visitors and residents.”
The Scarborough Heritage Trail starts at the Milford Road Esplanade and ends at Fort King George. The Church Tour Trail 1 features several sites including Mt Pleasant Anglican Church and cemetery, Montgomery Moravian Church (1770) Riseland, the Bethel Baptist Church and Bethesda Moravian Church (1874).
Visitors will be charged a fee to access the tours, which will be guided by specially trained Tobago Trails tour guides.
