September 13, 2016: The Water and Sewerage Authority (the “Authority”) advises customers in Central and South-West Trinidad served by the Point Lisas Desalination Plant owned and operated by the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (“Desalcott”) of a disruption in their normal water supply from Monday 12th SeptembertoWednesday 14th September, 2016.
This is due to a collapsed pipeline that occurred at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant. Operations at the Plant have been stopped as emergency repair works are currently being carried out.
The Authority has implemented the following temporary water supply schedules, in order to manage the deficit of 40 million gallons daily caused by the stoppage of the facility.
Monday 12th September 2016
- Central:
The following areas will NOT have a supply from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday 13th September 2016: Caroni, Felicity, Charlieville, Munroe Road, Cunupia, Chin Chin, Chaguanas, Carapichaima, Waterloo, Perseverance, Endeavour, Chase Village, Lange Park, Enterprise, Montrose, Roystonia, Claxton Bay, parts of Marabella and Gasparillo
- South West:
South Oropouche, Avocat, Fyzabad, Robert Hill, Darsan Trace, Villabrera Trace and Oropouche Road will receive a supply from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday 13th September.
Tuesday 13th September 2016
- Central:
Caroni, Felicity, Charlieville, Munroe Road, Cunupia, Chin Chin, Chaguanas, Carapichaima, Waterloo, Perseverance, Endeavour, Chase Village, Lange Park, Enterprise, Montrose, Roystonia, Claxton Bay, parts of Marabella and Gasparillo will receive a supply 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- San Fernando:
San Fernando will receive a supply from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00a.m.
Vistabella and Tarouba are expected to receive a supply from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Wednesday 14th September.
- South West:
Gulf View, Union Hall, Duncan Village, Pleasantville, La Romaine, Palmiste, Phillipine, Sunkist, Sunset Ridge and Sunset Cove, will receive a supply from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Wednesday 14th September.
The Authority will also be redistributing water from the Navet Water Treatment Plant and Point Fortin Desalination Plant in order to minimize the impact of this disruption to consumers in the affected areas.
Customers are further advised to manage their water use efficiently as it may take 12 to 24 hours for the supply to normalize to some affected areas after the Plant returns to full operation.
For further information or assistance, customers are encouraged to contact WASA’s Customer Call Centre toll free at 800-4420/26. A limited truck-borne water service will be available with priority given to special homes, health care and educational institutions.
The Authority apologizes for the inconvenience caused as a result of this situation at the Desalination Plant.
