November 23, 2016:
The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education and a team of officials from the Ministry of Education visited the Santa Flora Government Primary School on Wednesday 23rd November, 2016 to discuss the closure of the educational institution for the last eight weeks.
In addressing the parents and staff of the school, Minister Garcia noted that the building was not condemned by the OSH Authority. Further, he said the Ministry of Works did not issue a letter indicating that students could not be housed at the current location.
After touring the school, the Minister and his technical team agreed that the current school could have been occupied by students instead of their being kept away from classes for such a long period. However, he said alternative accommodation has been identified. He said the Beach Camp Facility located in the Petrotrin compound has been made available to house the 248 displaced students, and parents and staff have agreed to have their children occupy this facility, until the new school which is still being constructed is completed.
Students who are currently in Standards Four and Five will resume classes next Tuesday, while the rest of the students will resume classes on Friday (November 25).
