WASA employee killed on Cocorite jobsite

December 14, 2016: The Water and Sewerage Authority (the “Authority”) wishes to confirm that one of its employees, Nejie Ja Ja wastragicallyshot and killed on a jobsite at Powder Magazine, Cocorite on Tuesday December 13, 2106 at approximately 11:00 a.m. Twenty-seven (27) year old Nejie Ja Ja, was employed as an Attendant with the Authority for the past three (3) years.

During the incident, another staff member, thirty-four (34) old Luke Rampersad, a Waterworks Craftsman, was also shot and wounded and is currently warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after receiving initial treatment at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. His injury is not life threatening. The men were part of a crew dispatched by the Authority to perform repairs to a leaking pipeline at Powder Magazine.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is currently conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Authority extends its deepest condolences to the family of Nejie Ja Ja and wishes Luke Rampersad a speedy and full recovery. The Authority has offered counseling to the families of Mr. Ja Ja and Mr. Rampersad and will be handling the funeral and medical expenses of both men respectively.
