Agriculture Ministry participates in the National Cleanup Campaign

March 13, 2017: On Sunday 12th March, 2017, Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries led a team of one hundred volunteers as the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries participated in the National Clean Up Campaign with clean up operations at the Chacachacare island.  The team collected almost five hundred large bags of garbage, with some two hundreds bags of plastics and paper to be used for conversion into benches and flower pots by the Emperor Valley Zoo for donation to the schools that supported the Chacachacare Cleanup. 

Pointing to the thousands of bottle caps collected, the Minister said ‘this little thing could make a big difference. Just by disposing plastic bottle caps and water bottles in places where they could be recycled, we can reduce what ends up in the ocean and on our beaches’.  He also pointed out that‘community involvement is a must in any clean up activity’.

Participating in the clean up were Senator Avinash Singh, Parliamentary Secretary; Mrs. Angela Siew, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Claudelle Mc Kellar, Deputy Permanent Secretary; Mr. Andre Laveau, Deputy Permanent Secretary; Mrs. Nadra Nathai-Gyan, Chairman, Environmental Management Authority; and Mr. Guptee Lutchmedial, Chairman, Chaguaramas Development Authority;

Volunteers and participating organisations were represented from the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard; Association of Female Executives of Trinidad and Tobago (AFETT); Fatima Collegel Queen's Royal College; Mayaro Government School; Councillor Akeliah Glasgow of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation; and the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago; along with many staff members of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries.
