April 11, 2017: The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Ms. Natasha Barrow advised young people to take full advantage of the opportunity and excel to their fullest potential.
PS Barrow was speaking at the launch of the 18th Edition of the Flow Secondary Leadership Symposium on April 10, at the Cascadia Hotel, St. Ann’s.
The yearly symposium created by the Sports Desk founder, Valentino Singh give students the opportunity to interact, act leadership roles and learn life lessons from top icons in sport and other related disciplines.
PS Barrow urged the participants to grasp this opportunity to learn, interact and motivate each other. She said the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs was proud to be a sponsor and promises continued support for the youth.
She advised that the Ministry is currently revising the National Sport and Youth Policies to ensure a brighter future for young people.
PS Barrow further urged the students to build and develop their leadership skills on their path to becoming great leaders.
Last year the symposium saw the likes of Brian Lara, Cleopatra Borel, Shaka Hislop, and other brilliant minds.
Chairman and Sports Desk founder, Mr. Valentino Singh told the packed audience, “It is a seed that we are planting, make sure that you go out there and sow it.” He promised the young people three more days of excitement and motivation and ended by thanking all the sponsors.
Also giving advice, was the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, who said it was an honour to attend and called the symposium a youthful and angelic experience.
He urged young people to take control of their destinies, as they represent the growing elite of critical thinkers.
Also in attendance were Flow’s Director of Communications and Stakeholders Relations, Trudy De Verteuil; Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) President, Brian Lewis; Motivational Speaker, Don La Foucade and CNC3 News Presenter, Golda Lee Bruce.
The Flow Secondary Schools Leadership Symposium started back in 2004 with just about 40 students at the Trinidad Guardian office on St. Vincent Street. Today, it has grown into a well- respected event well attended by students from far and wide with some 38 schools at the fourth, fifth and sixth form levels participating.
