April 11, 2017: On Saturday April 8, 2017 the National Clean-Up Campaign launched in the region of Mayaro/Rio Claro with a brief ceremony taking place at the Rio Claro Bandstand. Members of the public commended Minister Kazim Hosein for his continued efforts to make the country a cleaner and safer place for all its citizens.
Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, MP for Mayaro, Rushton Paray, and Mayaro-born Calypsonian, Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters joined with key stakeholders and employees of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation to ensure that clean-up exercises were successfully conducted with continued assistance from corporate volunteers and volunteer groups.
This weekend clean-up exercises were extensive with corporate volunteers expanding their reach to include coastlines within the Mayaro/Rio Claro region. Unreserved efforts from volunteer groups, school children, residents, and our dedicated corporate contractors were applauded as they teamed up to clean up major watercourses and drains, remove derelict vehicles and dilapidated structures, dispose of bulk and white waste, clear overgrown lots and even to remove debris and clear the coastlines.
Special thanks to the sea-bathers, campers and citizens who came out in their numbers to beautify and remove debris from the shores of our lovely beaches which lie along the Mayaro coastline. Let us continue to restore aesthetic pride to our twin-island paradise as we create cleaner, healthier and safer communities through the spirit of volunteerism.
During the National Clean-Up Campaign, volunteer contractors donate the use of their machinery to remove heavy bulk waste and conduct major works in each region. The respective corporations are responsible for follow-up, maintenance and continued works to ensure that the job gets done as soon as possible.
